How I do my computing
This post is inspired from usesthis, a website where people talk about their computing setup. I've been meaning to do this for a while, but I've been procrastinating. I'm going to try to keep this short.
What hardware?
- I use two computers, a laptop and a desktop:
- The laptop is a 5 year old thinkpad T480.
- Intel i5-8350U
- 32GB DDR4
- Desktop:
- Intel i9-12900K
- 128GB DDR4
- AMD RX 6700 XT
- Multiple NAS HDDs and NVME drives attached
- The laptop is a 5 year old thinkpad T480.
- Raspberry pi zero w for pihole
- Input devices
- Logitech Mx keys
- Logitech Mx master 3
- Poco F3: MIUI (xiaomi.eu)
- Networking rig:
- This uses the cheapest stuff I could get:
- Router: Mi Router 4a
- Switch: D-link DGS-108
- This uses the cheapest stuff I could get:
- Marshall major III (Sounds good for hard rack and metal, not very comfortable for long listening sessions)
- Thinkpad hybrid dock
And what software
- OS: I use fedora workstation for work. And dual boot windows 11 for gaming
- I tried using Windows WSL for work for a year and gave up. Linux is much easier to work with as a dev
- Browser: Firefox for personal use and chrome for work (chrome sucks on linux)
- Filesystem: I use btrfs on all my computers. I also have storage pools in btrfs for media and backups, using btrfs raid 10
- $EDITOR: vscode (emacs keybindings) for writing code. emacs for org-mode
